2016 Belk Bowl odds: Arkansas a touchdown underdog against Virginia Tech

The Arkansas Razorbacks will try to keep their bowl winning streak alive when they take on the Virginia Tech Hokies in the Belk Bowl.

The Arkansas Razorbacks are 3-0 straight up and against the spread in their last three bowl games with all three of those wins coming by double digits. Despite their recent postseason success, the Razorbacks are the underdog against Virginia Tech in the Belk Bowl.

Arkansas is a 7-point underdog in Charlotte at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com. In their last 12 games as a betting underdog, the Razorbacks are 7-5 SU and 8-4 ATS.

The Razorbacks were one of the most inconsistent teams in the nation this season, earning some impressive wins at their best and getting blown away at their worst. Arkansas finished the regular season 7-5 SU and 5-7 ATS, losing by an average margin of 25 points per game in their defeats. But Arkansas also won five times as an underdog including wins as a double-digit underdog over TCU and Ole Miss.

The Razorbacks lost their final game of the regular season 28-24 to Missouri. Arkansas is 7-0 SU and 6-1 ATS in its last seven games coming off a loss per the OddsShark College Football Database.

Betting Line / Total: Virginia Tech -7 / 61 Points

Trend: Virginia Tech is 7-3 SU and ATS in its last 10 games in December.

Trend: Arkansas is 2-6 ATS in its last eight games after losing as a favorite.

Virginia Tech gave Clemson a scare in the ACC Championship Game, keeping the game close into the fourth quarter before eventually losing 42-35 as a 10.5-point underdog. The Hokies covered the spread in each of their final three games and ended the year with a 9-4 SU and 7-6 ATS record.

Like Arkansas, Virginia Tech has some ugly losses on its resume, including double-digit losses as a 23-point favorite to Syracuse and a 14-point favorite to Georgia Tech.

The Belk Bowl total is set at 61 points. The OVER is 6-0 in Virginia Tech’s last six games against SEC opponents.

The Hokies are 7-3 SU and ATS in their last 10 games played in the month of December. Virginia Tech averaged 35 points per game this season and is facing an Arkansas defense that allowed 30.8 points per game during the regular season.

The Razorbacks will likely give up plenty of points in the Belk Bowl, so it will be up to the offense to turn this game into a shootout to avoid seeing Arkansas get blown out again.
