Wyoming is playing San Diego State on Saturday for the Mountain West championship. The stakes are high. Cowboys QB Josh Allen threw an interception to SDSU’s Damontae Kazee, and the cornerback ran it back 25 yards. The problem? He needed 26.
Wyoming’s QB turned an SDSU pick-six into a touchback
It’s more fun if you think of this as a surefire way to pick up a few yards on first down.

After he got picked, Allen didn’t give up on the play. He chased down Kazee and got to him right as Kazee was diving for the end zone’s front right pylon. And while Kazee was stretching to break the plane for the score, Allen nailed him. The ball popped loose, bounced once in the end zone, and landed out of bounds. That’s a touchback, and certainly at least a seven-point swing in the MWC’s biggest game.
Wyoming started this play at its own 16, and the touchback got the Pokes the ball back at their own 20. So congrats to Allen on playing an extremely long game and meticulously planning out this four-yard gain, which was clearly intended.
