Wisconsin eventually got to a three-touchdown first-half lead against Penn State in Saturday’s Big Ten Championship. The way there was fascinating.
Penn State gave Wisconsin a B1G title game TD with this blooper reel of a play
Not exactly what you’re shooting for, Nittany Lions.

The third Badgers touchdown of the night was some “Jameis Winston in the Rose Bowl against Oregon”-level comedy, with Penn State playing the role of FSU.
The Nittany Lions had a theoretically manageable third-and-1 from just across their own 30-yard-line, down a touchdown in the second quarter. Things seemed fine.
But center Brian Gaia’s snap blooped over the head of quarterback Trace McSorley. The QB didn’t try to be a hero, instead opting to simply fall on the ball and end the play. McSorley couldn’t corral the pigskin, however, and a hit from Wisconsin linebacker Vince Biegel popped the ball into the air. Ryan Connelly, probably not believing his good fortune, collected it and scooted 12 yards for a Badgers touchdown.
For comparison’s sake, I give you the Winston play from two years ago:
The Penn State play was more a collaborative foible, while the Winston thing was more a solo performance. I won’t say Penn State’s actually matched this gold standard. I’m just saying it belongs somewhere in whatever conversation this is.
