Colorado coach shows how to react when a recruit chooses a different team

We salute you, reasonable adult football coach.

On Wednesday, we learned Texas Tech quarterback Davis Webb is transferring to Cal. He originally committed to playing his graduate season with Colorado, but as tends to happen, he changed his mind.

Colorado co-offensive coordinator Darrin Chiaverini, who reasonably could’ve been upset about this turn of events, took to Twitter and did something truly extreme: He acted like a rational and mature adult.

Colorado could've really used a player like Webb. The Buffs' 2015 starter, Sefo Liufau, is recovering from a Lisfranc injury to his left foot and could potentially redshirt for the 2016 season. Oh, and last year's backup, Cade Apsay, was dismissed from the team in March. That leaves true freshman Steven Montez or senior Jordan Gehrke to fight it out for the starting job if Liufau can't go.

We’ve become accustomed to faceless Twitter eggs tweeting at recruits at all hours of the day, begging the young men to play for their school, which of course is The Only Good School In The Country. When kids back out on a verbal commitment or choose a different program, the same accounts ceaselessly howl all manners of foul idiocy at the same recruits they were just lauding.

Internet malfeasance is not the sole domain of faceless numbskulls, however. Sometimes coaches refuse to think before they type, most recently Texas A&M assistant Aaron Moorehead, who was hacked off at the decommitment of blue-chip quarterback prospect Tate Martell. The tweets are quoted here because they have since been deleted.

Scared for this next group of kids. There is no accountability and no sense of positivity when it comes to adversity. #selfish #allaboutme

I feel sorry for ppl who never understand loyalty. I can’t really even vibe with u. At the end of the day trust is & everything else is BS

I wasn’t even talking about who everyone thinks I’m talking about. I didn’t even know #badtiming #relevanttho #stillnoloyalty

Unfortunately, it’s not out of the ordinary in the college football world for the adults to act like bigger children than the actual kids. It may seem a little sad that acting like a normal, well-adjusted adult is deserving of recognition, but consider this an appreciative shoutout to Chiaverini for doing just that. Sometimes we need a refresher.
