Baylor fired Art Briles amid a sexual assault scandal, but his son is still on the Bears’ staff.
But Briles’ son, Kendal, has remained in his role as the Bears’ offensive coordinator. He paid tribute to his fired dad during the Bears’ season-opening win against Northwestern State on Friday.

New Baylor head coach Jim Grobe said he had no gripe with the younger Briles’ way of honoring his dad (and Grobe’s predecessor).

Art Briles thinks he can get back into the coaching business after this season. But the law firm Baylor hired to investigate its treatment of sexual assault claims against football players reached some very bad conclusions about his staff’s behavior. (Baylor has released only a summary of the firm’s report.)
For now, Briles is out of coaching. Baylor will move forward with Grobe, at least for this year, and then have more decisions to make in the offseason.
