USC honoring the late Joe McKnight during Rose Bowl

This is a special tribute.

In early December, we learned the tragic news of former USC and NFL running back Joe McKnight passing away at the age of 28 after a shooting in Louisiana. Prior to NFL stints with the New York Jets and the Kansas City Chiefs, he was USC’s running back from 2007-09. During his final college season, McKnight rushed for 1,014 yards and eight touchdowns.

USC will face Penn State in this year’s Rose Bowl, and current Trojans running back Ronald Jones is honoring the late McKnight by wearing McKnight’s USC No. 4 he wore when playing for the Trojans.

Jones isn’t the only one who will be honoring McKnight — USC players are wearing helmet decals that have “JM 4” on them.

The Trojan running back that preceded McKnight, Reggie Bush, honored McKnight last month by wearing custom cleats during his game against the Oakland Raiders.

Kudos to Jones and the rest of the team for paying tribute to McKnight during one of college football’s grandest spectacles.
