USC all-purpose superstar and human bolt of lightning Adoree’ Jackson had a nice punt return in the first quarter of Monday’s Rose Bowl against Penn State.
Adoree’ Jackson had to go inspect the flag that ruined his big punt return
The man just wanted answers.
The return was cool, but it didn’t count. USC’s Jack Jones drew a flag for blocking some Nittany Lion in the back. (Jones is not the No. 14 you see in the image above.)
The penalty nullified Jackson’s return, and the player just wanted to know what had happened. He inspected the flag quite closely.
The most delightful, passively aggressive protest of a block-in-the-back call in football history? I think it has to be at least in that conversation.
The Trojans wound up kicking a field goal on the ensuing drive, taking a 13-0 lead. Maybe Jackson’s return would’ve made things better had it not come back, but USC can take solace in having had a way better start than Penn State.
Jackson won the Thorpe Award this year as the nation’s top defensive back. He’s a real threat on special teams, too, and he’s played offense in spots.
