The Oklahoma Sooners won the Big 12 last year after beating Oklahoma State 38-20 in the last week of the regular season. After the win, the Sooners were awarded the Big 12 title trophy, which features a glass bowl with each conference team’s logo etched in it.
Oops! Oklahoma broke one of its many Big 12 championship trophies
R.I.P.

It’s been a few months since the Sooners won and took home this hardware, and unfortunately we learned that the trophy (or one of Oklahoma’s previous editions) was broken on Saturday. Oklahoma offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley posted a photo of the damage on Twitter.
It looks like someone was trying to move a batch of the Sooners’ Big 12 championship trophies on a dolly cart, and this year’s trophy fell off.
Here are some pictures of the trophy. As you can see, it’s basically all glass, so whoever decided to put these babies on a cart with wheels maybe didn’t think this one through.
We’ve seen a tragedy like this happen before. In 2013 after Alabama won the national title, the Waterford crystal ball trophy worth $30,000 was accidentally shattered by a football player’s dad. This piece was all that was left of it, via Alex Scarborough.
Somehow, Alabama ended up auctioning off that shattered trophy for $105,000. Maybe OU could do something similar with its own shattered trophy.
R.I.P., 2016 Big 12 championship trophy. Hopefully, the conference can send the Sooners a replacement one. The good news is, OU still has nine other ones to put on display with the nine Big 12 title games they’ve won.
