No. 11 Miami went to halftime against Georgia Tech on Saturday trailing, 14-13. The Hurricanes tried to catch the Yellow Jackets by surprise out of the break.
The Miami Hurricanes just gave up a hilarious return touchdown on a botched onside kick
Georgia Tech will take that free TD, thanks very much.

It did not go well.
21-13, Georgia Tech.
Miami tried an onside kick, but Michael Badgley’s kick was a whiff. It only skidded seven yards, which is three yards shy of how long it had to go for Miami to be able to recover it. So the Canes backed off, thinking they’d take a procedure penalty and give the ball to Georgia Tech with excellent field position.
Miami’s assumption was wrong. Lamont Simmons picked up the ball for Tech and quickly got off to the races, and 42 yards later, he was in the end zone. Miami receiver Braxton Berrios would’ve had a shot to stop the runback if he’d been more alert, but by the time Berrios backed off, there was nothing but grass in front of Simmons. All he had to do was run a pretty standard 40-yard dash (and change) to score.
So, that’s how you give up a touchdown on a botched onside kick. It’ll be on “do not do this” highlight reels in special teams film rooms for all of eternity.
