The Wisconsin Badgers thrive when they can grind opponents into dust behind a dominant offensive line and an explosive running game. With a giant crop of blockers and an electric tailback to move the chains and strike fear in the hearts of opposing defenses, this may be the most Wisconsin-y Badgers team yet. That will be the Maryland Terrapins’ problem when the No. 5 Badgers play host to them at noon E.T., broadcast on FOX (live stream).

Spoiler alert: Wisconsin is going to run the ball. A lot.

Jonathan Taylor has emerged as one of the NCAA’s best running backs as a freshman, carving opponents up to the tune of 986 yards and 10 touchdowns in just six games. He accounted for nearly 48 percent of his team’s total offense in last week’s 17-9 victory over Purdue. On Saturday, he’ll face a Terrapins team that ranks just 81st in the NCAA against the rush.

Maryland at Wisconsin news:
- The highlight of Maryland’s loss to Northwestern was a game of hot potato with a game ball in the stands, which is a pretty good indication of how this season is going.
- No matter where you look, Wisconsin is a top-five team.
Beat Purdue, 17-9, a victory that is worth more than it used to be, via Purdue being interesting and good now. Wisconsin will probably win the West. Then, it will clean out the remainder of its schedule and step bravely into the ring in Indianapolis to take a 30-point loss from whatever monster roars in from the Big Ten East.
- After taking a step back against Northwestern, it will be tough for Maryland to make any meaningful progress in Madison.
Allowing 1,115 yards in two games is not a winning recipe, and the Terps have only been able to counter with 406 of their own. The bright spot against Northwestern was wideout D.J. Moore, whose career performance included 12 catches, 210 yards and a pair of touchdowns. But when the other 21 starters are off their game, those numbers can only mean so much.
- Jazz Peavy is questionable for Saturday’s game, which would be a big blow to Wisconsin’s passing game.
Seven players are listed as questionable, headlined by wide receivers Danny Davis (left leg), Jazz Peavy (right leg), and George Rushing (left leg). Running backs Taiwan Deal (right leg) and Chris James (left leg), defensive end Isaiahh Loudermilk (left leg), and kicker P.J. Rosowski (right leg) are also questionable.
Can the Terrapins pull off their second major upset of 2017 and inch closer to bowl eligibility?
Maryland began its year by outgunning then-No. 23 Texas in an opening week shootout, 51-41. Since then, the Terps have only managed to beat Towson and Minnesota. A brutal end to their schedule suggests only two more winnable games, and they’ll need an upset somewhere along the way to qualify for a bowl game. Beating Wisconsin in Madison would be a major boost to those postseason hopes.
Maryland at Wisconsin prediction:
Maryland is better than it usually is, but losses in three of its last four games — all by 16 points or more — are a solid indication of how this one is going to end. The Badgers might get off to a slow start, but expect the home team to hold serve.
