Oklahoma State is off to a 6-1 start in 2017, but not one of those half-dozen wins has come over a ranked opponent. The Cowboys will have a chance to right that wrong on Saturday when they travel to West Virginia for a showdown with the No. 22 Mountaineers. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET and will be broadcast live on ABC (live stream).

West Virginia’s powerful offense should pose a real threat to an Oklahoma State known to take part in its share of shootouts. Will Grier’s second act has gone better than expected after transferring from Florida; he’s throwing for more than 300 yards per game and has an impressive 26:5 touchdown-to-interception ratio with the Mountaineers. He’ll have to outduel Mason Rudolph — leader of the nation’s No. 1 passing offense.

Time, TV channel, and streaming info

  • Odds: Oklahoma State is favored by 6 points

Oklahoma State at West Virginia news:

WVU ranks second-to-last in my returning production measure, bringing back just 28 percent of its production, a level that virtually assures regression. Combine that with top-50 recruiting and solid-not-great recent performance, and you’ve got a drastic projected fall.

The Mountaineers win total is projected to fall from 10 to five, and while this is slightly off-base because it doesn’t take transfers into account, Grier only has 1,200 career passing yards. His addition wouldn’t make a drastic difference in the overall formula.

Will Grier completed 26-of-37 passing attempts for 375 yards and five touchdowns.

David Sills V now has 15 touchdowns on this season, and whoever is in charge should probably go ahead and hand him the Belitnikoff. #SILLETNIKOFF

Can West Virginia replicate Texas’s defensive gameplan?

The Longhorns held Oklahoma State to just 10 points by the end of regulation before losing in overtime on a baffling interception. Rudolph, who’d thrown at least two touchdown passes in every game this season, was kept out of the end zone. The Cowboys ran for 146 yards, but needed 51 carries to get there. That’s a major accomplishment for Texas, but one West Virginia will struggle to match. The Mountaineers rank just 111th in the nation in total defense.

Oklahoma State at West Virginia prediction:

Two of the NCAA’s top passing offenses will put on a fireworks display Saturday afternoon. In the end, the Mountaineers will get the biggest win of their season in a memorable performance.
