Given that Tuesday is Halloween, one of the hottest topics this year (and every year, pretty much) is the concept of candy corn. Essentially, if it’s terrible as a Halloween candy, or not. Well, college football’s most out-there head coach, Washington State’s Mike Leach, weighed in on the candy. Let’s just say he’s not a fan:
Mike Leach weighs in on the great candy corn debate: ‘It’s awful’
He also compared it to fruitcake.

“Oh I’ve never liked candy corn, I think it’s just awful — I think candy corn’s awful. You know, it’s like fruitcake. There’s a reason they only serve fruitcake once a year, because it’s awful. There’s a reason they only serve mint julep’s once a year, because they’re awful. And there’s a reason they only serve candy corn once a year, because it’s awful. Now, that does beg the question, ‘why they serve it at all?’ But anyway, that’s my opinion.”
He was then asked when his last encounter with candy corn was, and he had this gem of a response, unsurprisingly:
“Oh, sometime when I was a kid. And you eat it by the handfuls, because that’s all that’s left, and you get sick.”
Personally, I will eat candy corn, but it’s not my favorite, so to each their own on the popular October candy.
On a related Halloween note, Leach a couple of weeks ago told this hilarious story about the goths that he sees when he walks by the cemetery on the way to his office each day:
“There’s all these goths, there’s like six goth people. Well, they’re more like between I’m gonna say 20- and 30-year-old goths. You know, they didn’t have school its not like they were skipping school. And who knows, I don’t know what they’re going to do ‘Hey how you guys doing, great cemetery up here!’ and they just kind of gave me a frowney goth look, and just sort of nodded. Because goths aren’t in good moods anyway, I mean everything’s about spider webs and black hair, black this — really white faces. So anyway, hopefully I made about six new friends, but they didn’t speak much, so.”
Washington State takes on Stanford this Saturday at home. Thank you for this, Coach Leach, and Happy Halloween.
