Michigan State beat No. 7 Michigan on Saturday in Ann Arbor, 14-10. The Wolverines had a Hail Mary shot on the last play, but it fell incomplete.
After a key Michigan drop, an MSU defender made a choking sign at the receiver
The drop isn’t why Michigan lost, but it didn’t help.

They might’ve had a higher-percentage look at the end zone if not for an unfortunate drop by receiver Eddie McDoom. Michigan quarterback John O’Korn eluded several rushers and got the ball loose to McDoom, who had room to catch and and run from the Michigan State 31. Except McDoom didn’t catch the ball.
After the drop, a Michigan State defender looked at McDoom, appeared to say “choke,” and made a choking sign with his hands on his neck.
Had McDoom caught the ball, he would’ve likely at least gotten out of bounds at the MSU 30. There’s some chance he could’ve turned and gotten upfield. Either way, he would’ve set up Michigan for a better last play than the one it actually got. O’Korn’s Hail Mary try came from the MSU 37, a bit behind where McDoom dropped the ball.
MSU’s win keeps up a trend of underdog Spartan teams beating their in-state rivals. The Wolverines have now lost eight of 10 in this series, and they’ll fall out of the top 10 when polls come out Sunday.
