Notre Dame coach told players, ‘They can have the chain, we’re gettin’ the f****** rings,’ but then the Irish gave up 4 turnovers and lost

WELP.

Notre Dame defensive coordinator Mike Elko was tasked with firing up his troops upon arrival at Hard Rock Stadium, so he gave quite the speech to his players before going into the locker room to get dressed, punctuated with this:

“You go out tonight you show the world with this fuckin’ group is all about, you hear me? They can have the chain, we’re gettin’ the fucking rings.”

This is of course a direct reference to Miami’s turnover chain, the sweet Cuban Links given to a Canes defensive player that gets a takeaway.

UPDATE: After this extremely lit speech, Notre Dame’s defense gave up 41 points in the loss to the Canes.

I’m not gonna get pious about this. Football coaches cuss, and you’re just gonna have to deal with it. I’m extremely hype just watching the video, and I can only imagine what this does for a bunch of 18-22 year-olds. Notre Dame has been hearing about how great Miami is all week after the Canes finally put a complete performance together. The U is hosting College GameDay, and the pregame talk has been much more about them than the Irish.

This is a coach getting his boys ready to play in a supercharged road environment, one that Notre Dame hasn’t played in yet given that all its big games have been at home. Get ‘em up to play however you can, and I’m willing to bet this is gonna work.
