Central Washington, Fort Hays State, Indiana (Pennsylvania), and West Alabama earned first-round byes. Your reigning D2 champ, Northwest Missouri State (won in an amazingly snowy Kansas City), is in as a No. 6 seed in FHSU’s super region.

Last year, Mary Hardin–Baylor ended the 11-year run of titles won by either Wisconsin-Whitewater or Mount Union. The reigning champs are 10-0, and Mount Union is here as always, but UWW not being involved will take some getting used to. The Warhawks went 7-3 this year.

More playoffs comin’

The FCS Selection Sunday is Nov. 19, while the FBS level’s College Football Playoff is announced Dec. 3. The latter is the only one of these not directly overseen or selected by the NCAA.
