Well, we may have our Piesman Trophy front-runner, folks. During a Division-III game between Capital and Heidelberg — two schools located in Ohio — Heidelberg scored a touchdown on this beautiful hook-and lateral. Quarterback Tyler Stoyle found his receiver, Demetrius Magee, who then lateraled it to Heidelberg left tackle Brock Riggs, who flipped over the goal line for a touchdown:
D-III Piesman TD has a hook-and-lateral, BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE. Watch this 290-pound lineman flip!
Beautiful.

Shout-out to Riggs for having the vision and agility to do a dang front flip into the end zone — it wasn’t really necessary but was really completely necessary at the same time. Did we mention he’s 290 pounds?
The Adviser-Tribune adds some excellent background to this trick play, which includes that it was actually called during last year’s game against Capital, but it didn’t end up working out:
“When you have an offensive lineman as your coordinator,” Heidelberg coach Scott Donaldson said, referencing Jason Lewis, “any opportunity he can to get an offensive line touchdown, he’s going to try.”
To that point, Riggs said this wasn’t the first time the gadget play had been attempted.
“So, last year, at Capital, we made a trick play for me to score,” Riggs said.
It didn’t work. Stoyle was intercepted.
“So, he swore he’d never run a trick play to me, ever again,” Riggs said. “But actually, in the locker room after that, when we came back, he said if I came back (to play in ’17) I’ll get a touchdown.
“Today, we made that come to fruition.”
Heidelberg’s tweet of the play during the game was also fantastic:
There’s still a couple of weeks left of the FBS regular season, but don’t be surprised if Riggs is walking away with the trophy on Dec. 8, folks.
