Tennessee concluded its awful 2017 in the only way that was fitting: falling to 0-8 in the SEC for the first time ever with a blowout home loss to 4-7 Vanderbilt

The best SEC team from Tennessee once again beat Tennessee in a season finale.

Nothing about this result means anything for the future of the Tennessee football program anyway, but you can still point at it and be cognizant of it:

Vanderbilt 42, Tennessee 24. The Vols went winless in the SEC for the first time ever.

Saturday’s Commodores win in Knoxville makes two seasons in a row that the historical little brother of Tennessee SEC teams has beaten the Vols. Last year’s game in Nashville included the Dores stealing the Life Championship belt from Butch Jones’ team after the not-yet-fired Tennessee coach had said his players were champions of life.

Tennessee fired Jones a couple of weeks ago, and the Vols have now concluded their 4-8 season by losing two in a row under interim coach Brady Hoke, formerly of Michigan. The loss to Vanderbilt secures an important achievement: Tennessee will enter the offseason with a current losing streak against every other team in the SEC.

In memoriam of this Tennessee season, a quick summary of each game:

Congrats to Tennessee fans everywhere on the merciful conclusion of this season. You will (probably) not have one quite this frustrating for at least a few more years.
