Dave Doeren reportedly staying at NC State, so Tennessee’s coaching search continues

The Vols were looking to hire the Wolfpack coach.

Dave Doeren won’t be Tennessee’s head coach, according to several reports.

Doeren had been in talks with NC State over an extension after going 8-4 in a down ACC Atlantic division, and with Tennessee.. He’s been linked throughout the coach hiring season to Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and, now, Tennessee. This means we may have had the equivalent of a recruit’s Signing Day hat dance in the works for Doeren.

Ausual with coaching searches, there is the aspect of using one job to sweeten the pot at your current situation — college football is a business after all. NC State has reportedly offered Doeren a significant raise to keep him in Raleigh.

And should the Vols secure Doeren, well, the natives will be a bit restless at that news.

Nothing has been normal about Tennessee’s rollercoaster search for a new head coach. It looked like it might end on Thursday, but it’s not done yet.
