UMass gave No. 16 Mississippi State a decent scare on Saturday in Starkville, though the Bulldogs pulled away late and won 34-23.
Two UMass teammates shove on the sideline as Mississippi State game devolves into chaos
The end of a decent game got messy.

Just before the end of the game, some chaos: UMass quarterback Ross Comis turned up injured after a pileup. MSU coach Dan Mullen got into a heated-looking argument with UMass coach Mark Whipple. And around the same time, two UMass players fought on the sideline. That teammate fight, which involved a significant shot to the face:
The combatants were Minutemen left tackle Ray Thomas-Ishman and receiver/running back Jessie Britt. It’s not clear what caused the issue, but they were fighting just a couple of feet away from where trainers were tending to Comis.
On the next play, Thomas-Ishman was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.
It appeared that Mullen and Whipple made up afterward.
UMass’ loss, once it’s final, will bring the Minutemen’s record to 2-7 on the year. Mississippi State will be 7-2, though this won’t go down as any sort of impressive win.
