Purdue beats Arizona and has its first winning season since 2011
Jeff Brohm’s got this thing in the right direction.

Purdue 38, Arizona 35.
The Purdue Boilermakers are 7-6, and finally has another winning season. If you were questioning Jeff Brohm, there’s no way you can be now. With this win, Brohm’s put the finishing touches on an impressive first season as Boilermakers head coach.
If he can parlay this into more success, then suitors will certainly come calling. For now, his black and gold Boilermakers should enjoy an impressive 2017.
Fourth quarter
We almost got a really fun finish in this game. Khalil Tate’s 24-yard TD pass gave Arizona its first lead since the first quarter.
You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more open wide reciever. But Purdue would answer back with this 38-yard Elijah Sindelar pass and incredible Anthony Mahoungou catch.
It was Mahoungou’s second TD catch, and it was certainly impressive as he wrestled the ball away from the defender covering him.
But did Purdue give Tate too much time? Was he ready to march down the field and lead the Wildcats to victory?
Unfortunately, no. Purdue wins 38-35.
Third quarter
Oh, you thought Khalil Tate was just gonna let his Wildcats go quietly into the night? Think again. Check how Arizona turned a tip drill interception into a deadly Tate TD throw.
Tate is all-world, and has four TDs already in this game which ties a Foster Farms Bowl record.
After the third quarter, Arizona leads, 31-28.
Second quarter
The Boilermakers put the hammer down in the second quarter scoring 17 unanswered points. Purdue heads into halftime with a 31-14 lead. Purdue’s offense looked like it was beginning to run away with things. At their most savage, the Boilermakers busted out this wonderful trick play.
The fake kneel-down has been something of a staple trick play in Jeff Brohm’s offense, and Arizona never saw it coming.
First quarter
Yeah, it’s been a fun one.
Purdue’s certainly making their first bowl trip in five years count. They whipped out this trick play during the first quarter. It didn’t work, but here’s what it looks like when it does.
Khalil Tate is the player to keep an eye on going into Wednesday’s Foster Farms Bowl from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. The Arizona Wildcats’ quarterback is one of the best players that few people have actually been able to watch for a reasonable time this season.
Recent bowl history is pretty interesting for both teams. Purdue has won just a single bowl game against a Power Five program since 1998, while Arizona has won three of its last four but didn’t play in a bowl game a season ago.
Tate is an electrifying playmaker who finished the season with 1,353 yards and 12 touchdowns. Some teams have been able to contain him, like Arizona State and Oregon, but containing him is the top order for Purdue. That said, the Boilermakers have struggled at times on defense, especially when it comes to getting off the field.
