What should I know about the two teams in the Frisco Bowl?
SMU (7-5, 4-4 in AAC)
The Mustangs went bowling every year from 2009-12. They didn’t bowl for 25 years before that, and they haven’t bowled for five years since. This year, they’re back.
SMU doesn’t play a whole lot of defense, but the Mustangs’ spread offense is high-flying and lots of fun to watch. They fill up the stat sheet with a strong running game and a pretty decent passing game, which tends to make them enjoyable even when they’re losing. (See their 56-36 loss to TCU or their 31-24 loss to UCF, which was a decently played game all around.)

Louisiana Tech (6-6, 4-4 in Conference USA)
The Bulldogs followed up three consecutive nine-win seasons with a sharp decline this year, but Skip Holtz still got the Bulldogs to a bowl game for the fourth time in a row. Before that, you’d have to go back to 1990 to count four Tech bowl appearances. It’s a solid achievement.
Tech has a pretty solid passing game and plays decent defense. There are a few solid running backs on this roster, and the team had a couple of nice wins against WKU and UTSA. The Bulldogs could put together a quality showing in their bowl, too.
