What should I know about the two teams in the Heart of Dallas Bowl?

West Virginia (7-5, 5-4 in Big 12)

The Mountaineers are playing in a bowl game for the 15th time in 16 years, an impressive run that began under Rich Rodriguez in 2002. This year’s team made huge strides offensively and had one of the most exciting, prolific passing games anywhere behind Florida transfer quarterback Will Grier. The defense wasn’t much, but the Big 12’s a league about offense.

This was the 10th anniversary of WVU’s magical then nightmarish 2007 season, when the ‘Eers came a whisker from the national title game before losing to rival Pitt.

Utah (6-6, 3-6 in Pac-12)

The Utes secured bowl eligibility by beating Colorado in Week 13. They had an altogether disappointing year after three straight seasons of at least nine wins, but they’re still in a bowl game for the 13th time in 15 years. They’ve won four consecutive bowl appearances, dating back to the Sun Bowl against Georgia Tech in 2011. Head coach Kyle Whittingham is a fairly incredible 10-1 in his bowl games, which should make Utes fans optimistic.
