What should I know about the two teams in the Texas Bowl?
Texas (6-6, 5-4 in Big 12)
The Longhorns are back in a bowl game for the first time since 2014, Charlie Strong’s first year on the job. A bowl appearance is not Tom Herman’s end game in Austin, but bringing a once-proud program back from the abyss takes time.
Herman’s first year has included Texas lining up a monstrous 2018 recruiting class, and this feels likely to be the first of many bowl seasons in a row for the Horns. It’s an important steppingstone. This year’s team has a pretty good defense to go with a mediocre offense.

Missouri (7-5, 4-4 in SEC)
The Tigers executed an incredible in-season turnaround. After starting the year 1-5, they won each of their last six games and emerged as probably the second-best team in the SEC East after Georgia. Quarterback Drew Lock led a really fun offense, Barry Odom didn’t get fired, and Mizzou is now positioned to go into next season on a great roll.
A bowl win would be a nice way to cap what’s already become a feel-good year. Mizzou is participating in a bowl for the first time since 2014 under Gary Pinkel.
