Matt Lubick has had a whale of an offseason.
One assistant coach has now left both Ole Miss and Baylor in the same offseason
Matt Lubick is on the move again, reportedly to Washington.

He was Oregon’s offensive coordinator last season, but his time in Eugene ended when Willie Taggart replaced Mark Helfrich as the Ducks’ head coach. In December, Ole Miss announced it was hiring him as wide receivers coach, and about two weeks later, Lubick left the Rebels to become a co-offensive coordinator and receivers coach at Baylor.
That’s reportedly not going to last long, either.
Football Scoop reported Lubick is taking a job at Washington, and that Baylor coach Matt Rhule had promoted his quarterbacks coach, Glenn Thomas, to be a co-offensive coordinator.
Baylor has had a challenging time finding stability in the wake of the sexual assault scandal that cost Art Briles his job and ultimately led to Rhule’s hiring. Lubick’s departure doesn’t help that, no matter the reason he’s leaving. Rhule will need to find a new coordinator, again. Baylor’s previous offensive coordinator, Briles’ son Kendal, is now at FAU with new Owls head coach Lane Kiffin.
Lubick’s coaching experience is mostly on the West Coast, so while this is a quick turnaround, maybe it shouldn’t surprise us if he’s returning there. Other than a stint as Duke’s receivers coach from 2010-12, Lubick hasn’t had a coaching stop east of Colorado State. (Baylor would’ve been, but now it’s not.) He could return to more familiar terrain, and Baylor will have to figure out a way forward.
