Texas’ new locker room will have TVs instead of nameplates for players

It’s so unnecessarily opulent that it’s actually awesome.

Last week, Texas coach Tom Herman gave us the gif that will keep on giving whenever anything goes wrong during his tenure with the Longhorns.

Herman was putting in a hard day’s work because Texas is renovating its locker room. The renovations are absolutely ridiculous in how cool they look, if this locker is any indication. Here’s what one will look like when renovations are done, topped with a TV that’s as big or bigger than the one you probably have in your home.

The lockers reportedly cost $10,500 each, and the locker room last received improvements in 2011. This new wave is part of a broader expansion and improvement of facilities in Austin. It is one of college sports’ great ironies that Texas of all places has fallen behind a bit in college football’s facilities arms race. The Horns are the nation’s richest athletic program.

But if anyone can get them back on track, it’s Herman, whose zeal for improvement at Houston led him to replace the floors himself at the Cougars’ facility. And it’s motivation behind what he’s doing in Austin.
