An Alabama fan on a 247Sports message board is a little concerned about Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s “transition” to America. Tagovailoa, a true freshman and former five-star quarterback, is from Honoloulu, Hawaii. Yes, Hawaii has been a member of the United States since 1959.
A Bama message boarder joked (?) about a Hawaiian QB transitioning to America, confounding the internet
Whatever’s going on here, the thread of responses is becoming an instant message board classic.

That tweet ^ pointing all this out had about 3,000 shares after only about two and a half hours. The tweet eventually made its way to Tagovailoa himself, who thought it was pretty funny.
Now, we aren’t too sure if this fan is completely joking, but one thing we can confirm is that English is in fact spoken in Hawaii, and Hawaiians actually play football pretty darn well. In 2007, the Rainbow Warriors finished with the best record in college football during quarterback Colt Brennan’s senior year. The tweet eventually made its way
Back to this amazing message board post. Some of the responses to it are simply pure gold, while most of them are just debating whether the original post was serious or not.
The board seems to have solidified around the opinion that the whole thing was a joke.
My colleague Alex Kirshner did a profile on Tagovailoa last July, when he was still a recruit:
It’s easy to pick Alabama for purely football reasons, but Tagovailoa’s rationale goes much deeper than that.
“First and foremost, it was their belief in God. Their belief in God was one of the biggest things that kind of struck me. That kind of lines up with everything in my life,” Tagovailoa said. “It’s not really structured, ‘There’s God, and there’s anything else.’ It’s more, ‘God’s so in the middle, and everything revolves around Him.’ That’s the kind of atmosphere I want to surround myself with.”
Thank you, Alabama fan, for whatever is happening here. Hawaii is part of the United States. Roll Tide.
