BYU keeps trying to pull off the worst fake punt ever

Late in a blowout loss to LSU in New Orleans, BYU tried this unbelievably delayed fake punt:

After the dismal failure, ESPN showed head coach Kalani Sitake hollering at punter Jonny Linehan to KICK THE BALL.

This appears to be one of those plays where the punter has a read option and can elect to either punt rugby-stlye on a rollout or just keep rollin’. Here, he rolled all the way back to the line of scrimmage, with no further rollin’.

LSU took over and punched in a freebie touchdown.

This was somehow even worse than BYU’s terrible fake punt from the 2016 season, because at least there was a plan there, even though it didn’t work any better.

LSU didn’t mind, though.
