Alabama won the College Football Playoff and thus went into the history books as the sport’s national champion in 2017. UCF went 13-0 and used its perch as the country’s lone unbeaten team to claim the national title for itself, which is fine and good.
UCF fans paid for a billboard ad in Tuscaloosa, challenging Alabama to a home-and-home series
Both teams claim the 2017 national title.

Relatedly, here’s a billboard some UCF fans raised money to advertise on. It’s in Tuscaloosa, the home of the Crimson Tide:
The Knights beat Auburn in the Peach Bowl. Auburn, coincidentally, is the only team that beat the Tide in their title-winning season. One of the people who purports to be behind the billboard adds this note:
The Tide are legit champions, but their resume isn’t that different than UCF’s. They played a far harder schedule, of course, which is why they made the Playoff while UCF was relegated to a lesser-but-still-good Peach Bowl.
If UCF and Alabama played this year, the Tide would’ve been favorites, as they are against every team they play. A future meeting of the teams would do nothing to change the outcome of 2017, but it’d still be fun, and fun things are good.
(Alabama would never agree to such a series. The Tide have a lot of future non-conference opponents already scheduled, and there’s almost no upside for Power 5 teams to schedule “mid-majors” who are capable of competing. But anyway.)
