Nick Saban says Tua Tagovailoa should be fine after knee injury

With Alabama up 30-10 at home against Missouri, starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa slid down to end a run and then needed a look from the trainers. It appeared to be some sort of knee injury, though he later jogged off the field and into the medical tent. The head coach comments:

Here was the play.

ESPN’s cameras then showed the QB’s parents entering the medical tent, which wasn’t exactly common but isn’t necessarily indicative of anything. They exited a few minutes later.

Here was the QB himself stepping out after about 15 minutes in the tent. He appeared to have a slight limp, but put his helmet on. ESPN reported he was questionable to return, largely due to the scoreboard.

Backup Jalen Hurts, the previous starter who’s gotten plenty of reps all season long, took over to begin the next drive. It was unclear whether that indicated anything about Tagovailoa’s status, since Mizzou didn’t have the ball very long (meaning Tua had basically just stepped into the medical tent) and since Hurts has taken tons of snaps during Bama’s second halves anyway, but Hurts wrapped the game up regardless.

Tagovailoa is by far the Heisman Trophy favorite through about half of the season, putting up stats that rival those produced by plenty of star QBs during entire full seasons.

Next up for Bama is Tennessee, and it sounds like Tua should be expected to play.
