1. In Week 10, West Virginia won at Texas on a QB draw by Will Grier:
WVU’s still trolling Texas 2 weeks later, and the Horns finally got to hit back
The play that beat the Longhorns is now basically named after the Horns Down signal. Texas noticed.
2. After that winning score on a two-point conversion (but still with a few seconds left on the clock), officials penalized Grier for unsportsmanlike conduct. His crime was going up to a bunch of Texas fans and flashing the Horns Down hand sign, with Texas’ signature Hook ‘Em signal inverted.
3. The Big 12 considers that a penalty, even though it doesn’t have to. If you wanted to interpret the rulebook to make Horns Down not be a penalty, you easily could. Dana Holgorsen said after the Texas game that WVU had been told Horns Downs would be OK.
4. Two weeks later, in the fourth quarter of a game at Oklahoma State, West Virginia ran the same play it ran when Grier walked into the end zone to beat Texas. It worked again.

5. Oh hell yeah, WVU made that play its HORNS DOWN PLAY:
Holgorsen is an American treasure.
6. But then WVU collapsed, giving up two touchdowns in the last five minutes to lose, 45-41, and get knocked out of the Playoff race.
7. And then Texas got the last (though not the biggest) laugh:
