Who’s playing in the 2018 Music City Bowl?

Auburn (7-5, 3-5 in SEC)

Rumors have swirled all year, and especially recently, about Gus Malzahn’s job status. This preseason top-10 team has been an epic disappointment, with an uncharacteristically mediocre ground game and a surprisingly poor pass game. There’s been very little to like about 2018 Auburn. But the fact remains that Auburn recruits well and has one of the most talented rosters in the country. If the Tigers put out an excellent performance in this game, who would it really shock?

Purdue (6-6, 5-4 in Big Ten)

The Boilermakers were up and down, as their record suggests. But they still had a memorable and exciting year, for two big reasons: 1) They destroyed Ohio State in one of the most stunning upsets of this or any other year, and 2) Their impressive second-year head coach, Jeff Brohm, didn’t leave after the regular season for the head gig at his alma mater, Louisville. Purdue’s recruiting well, playing a lot better than it was two years ago, and in line to become a regular factor in the Big Ten West.

Where is the Music City Bowl?

It’s at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium, home of the Titans. It’s been there since 1999, after 1998’s inaugural game was played at Vanderbilt Stadium. The creation of the Music City Bowl more or less accompanied the move of the Houston Oilers to Nashville, and the game has had an NFL venue for almost its entire history. It’s usually a good draw, with attendance most of the time sitting at or above 50,000 for an all-Power 5 bowl game.

When is the Music City Bowl, and how can I watch it?

1:30 p.m. on Dec. 28. You can watch or stream it on ESPN.
