All the times Lane Kiffin subtweeted Alabama, usually lovingly

His Twitter account is an adventure, especially when he’s tweeting about his former boss.

FAU head coach Lane Kiffin is no stranger to trolling people on Twitter — he still does it to Tennessee fans, and he’s a master at it. And since he’s taken the job as the Owls head man, he’s thrown a few jabs — some subtle and not-so-subtle — at his former employer.

After Super Bowl 52, he responded to a tweet about Eagles tackle Lane Johnson discussing the New England Patriots, essentially Alabama’s NFL counterpart:

When Kiffin retweeted that with this ...

... it was clear he was joking about Alabama, because he’s always joking about Alabama.

After Nick Saban’s “rat poison” rant about the media, Kiffin took to using the phrase himself.

One of his more notable trolls came after Alabama lost to Auburn:

He was asked about this on the Dan Patrick Show:

Kiffin: Uh, good. We left on – I’m not going to say perfect, but when you have the last 26 times we walked on the football field together, we were 26-0. … I’d call that a pretty successful marriage.

Patrick: Does he miss you?

Kiffin: I don’t know if he misses me. Maybe on third down the other night he might have.

This wasn’t the first time Kiffin used Saban’s coined term. He’s especially had fun with going over the top while warning his players about the danger of listening to praise by the media (while praising his players at the same time).

“I don’t know about pride,” Kiffin said when asked by Al.com about trolling. “I think it’s funny to watch people’s reactions. People are too serious. To see fans from different places — whether it is here or Tennessee or Alabama or USC — just to see their reactions. I like that I can put something out and make somebody’s day.”

He’s got a sarcastic love/hate relationship with his former employer.

He still pulls for the Tide quite a bit ...

... even though he’ll also share stuff like this:

And his Owls have sort of adopted Bama’s “Roll Tide” mantra. Kiffin retweeted this one:

And the feeling is seemingly mutual, at least among some Bama fans who wanted him back.

Kiffin and Saban had a pretty good run together, so you can’t blame Tide fans, really. He responded to various tweets, including one about Saban giving him a call for OC:

He also can’t help but point out Bama was better with him around:

He called for a Bama touchdown during the Sugar Bowl, and someone made a joke about the Tide needing him, which he of course retweeted:

Speaking of Saban!

We made this meme, btw:

He retweeted all these:

This manual retweet came after he was sent a tweet of an EA Sports NCAA Football simulation of FAU beating Bama:

Kiffin knows exactly what he’s doing when he does stuff like this, and it’s mostly all in good fun. And he at least knows that Saban won’t see it anyway.

“Everybody writes that I’m trolling him,” Kiffin said on The Dan Le Batard Show. “What you don’t realize is Nick Saban doesn’t know what Twitter is. So he’s never even been on Twitter. You can’t troll somebody who doesn’t see it. I’m really not trolling him.”
