It’s NFL draft season, so that means it’s time for the extremely common practice of schools making graphics that stretch the impact of a college coach on a player’s future NFL earnings.
Jalen Ramsey doesn’t want his old coach to use him as a recruiting tool at Texas A&M
Jimbo Fisher was Ramsey’s head coach at Florida State, but the Aggies are claiming the star DB in a roundabout way.

Of the eight defensive backs on this list, seven played for Fisher at Florida State, while Kevin Johnson played at Wake Forest under defensive coordinator Mike Elko (which the graphic notes).
While Fisher certainly had a hand in recruiting the other seven, he’s not a defensive coach. And as involved as he was in calling the plays on offense for FSU, he’s not really coaching or even paying too much attention to his defense in practice. Former FSU DB Jalen Ramsey calls the B.S. here perfectly.
Ramsey’s clear that while it’s all love, he’s not happy about being used as a promotional tool for Texas A&M.
Beyond the scholarship and full cost of attendance, neither Ramsey nor or any of the other seven players on that graphic saw a dime related to their football talents until they left school. Meanwhile, Fisher earned multiple performance bonuses triggered in his contract due to the exploits of all of his players.
This graphic is a marketing tool so Fisher and the Aggies can entice more players to come to College Station and play below their market value. All the while, FIsher and his staff will continue to make salaries commensurate with their market value. Don’t be fooled: Ascribing what money those players earned after leaving Fisher directly to Fisher is creative marketing at best.
