Nebraska’s new AD says Ohio State is ‘running a little bit scared’ of the Huskers. Sure.

Michigan, too.

I am all for projected confidence and being jazzed up about a new hire. But new Nebraska athletic director Bill Moos might be a bit out in front of his skis with effusive praise about what new coach Scott Frost is going to do in Lincoln:

“We’re gonna run that uptempo offense we saw (at the spring game), and we’re gonna get the Blackshirts back to being Blackshirts. And that’s extremely important,” Moos said. “You’ve got Urban Meyer and Jim Harbaugh thinking, ‘We better put a little more into that Nebraska game coming up.’ And that’s the way we want it. They’re running a little bit scared right now. And they won’t admit it. We’ll leave that at that.”

We’ve heard that the Blackshirts defense will be back before.

Bo Pelini tried to revive that edge within the program. So did Mike Riley, like when he hired former UConn coach and well-regarded Notre Dame defensive coordinator Bob Diaco before last season. The Huskers then went 4-8 and gave up 36 points per game.

We’ve heard, in general, that Nebraska will be back before.

Who knows.

But Ohio State, in particular, is probably not running scared of Nebraska.

The Huskers have lost to the Buckeyes by a combined score of 181-55 in their last three meetings, dating to 2012. That’s an average score of, uh, 60-18.

So for now it’s hubris, and Frost’s boss is writing a verbal check that’ll be tough for the new head coach to cash.

But he’ll get his chance, as both Michigan and Ohio State are on the schedule this year.
