The most surprising thing I’ve learned about college football this week is that the quarterback of the Wisconsin Badgers is an amazing country singer.
Wisconsin’s QB has an angelic country music voice. Hear him cover the Zac Brown Band.
Orange Bowl MVP Alex Hornibrook does music, too.

It’s not that I actively thought Alex Hornibrook couldn’t sing country or play guitar. It just wasn’t a thing at the forefront of my mind.
But here is the incontrovertible proof:
We could argue until we’re all blue in the face about his decision to cover the Zac Brown Band’s “Chicken Fried”. My view of the song is that it’s fine, though probably best left in the past if you’re any older than a 17-year-old attending your first country concert. It wouldn’t have been my first choice, but if you’re gonna do country, you could pick worse.
Back to the point at hand, Hornibrook is really good. He sings with palpable emotion and a certain calmness that I look for in a good country song. He’s from West Chester, Pennsylvania, which is a Philadelphia suburb and not what most would consider a hotbed of country music talent. So I don’t know how Hornibrook picked this up or got so good at it, but listening to him sing has been one of the more delightful parts of my Wednesday morning.
There’s evidence Hornibrook is a George Strait fan.
