Here are the 2018 dates when you’ll be yelling at loved ones more forcefully than usual about the College Football Playoff

Tune in for new rankings on these days and also to re-litigate Alabama vs. UCF, though that happens every day anyway.

Finally, you can plan out when the arguments on your college football calendar will crescendo to their peaks, because we know when the College Football Playoff committee will be releasing its 2018 top 25 rankings, which eventually determine who makes the Playoff and New Year’s Six games (all times are slightly loose and ET time zone, and you can tune into ESPN’s reveal show each week, or you can just click here to see the rankings the minute they’re out):

  • Tuesday, October 30, 7:10 p.m.
  • Tuesday, November 6, 9:10 p.m.
  • Tuesday, November 13, 7:10 p.m.
  • Tuesday, November 20, 7:10 p.m.
  • Tuesday, November 27, 7:10 p.m.
  • And the only one that actually matters: Sunday, December 2

Six is the usual number of rankings releases, yeah.

If you’re just now joining us, here’s how the Playoff rankings work. (That post still needs slight updating after 2017’s season, but it holds up fine.)

This year’s semis are the Cotton and Orange, with the title game in Santa Clara, California. As for which teams will be in it, here are Bill Connelly’s 1-through-130 S&P+ rankings.

And here is your reminder that the dreaded preseason AP poll actually does not seem to influence these rankings in any noticeable way. Just felt like bringing that up, since that’s the next rankings event between now and then.
