“New England Patriots, this is Bret Bielema!” BERT, the former Arkansas head coach, has found himself a new gig. The thing is, his new job title sounds like it’s straight out of an episode of The Office, similar to Dwight Schrute’s famous “Assistant to the Regional Manager” title:
Bret Bielema is now Bill Belichick’s Dwight Schrute
Assistant to the Head Coach, essentially.

Bret began working with the Pats during the NFL combine in February, assisting with pre-draft scouting. He then moved into more of a coaching role with the defensive line during rookie minicamp and OTA’s.
“We have a good staff,” Belichick said via 247Sports when asked about Bielema in May. “We have a lot of great people. I’m very fortunate to be working with a lot of talented people and they all help me a lot. They all do a great job - our support people, our coaching staff, scouting staff, all the other people in video, training, equipment and so forth, operations. We have a real good support staff and they all do a critical job as part of our success. Glad we have them.”
We’ve seen recently fired head coaches get positions like this before — former Tennessee head coach Butch Jones is now literally an “intern” at Alabama under Nick Saban, for example.
SB Nation has the first exclusive look at Bielema’s official business card with the Pats:

All jokes aside, working on Bill Belichick’s staff in New England can’t be a bad resume builder for any coach, and depending on how he does this season, perhaps he could stick around with the Pats and gain some valuable experience.
Maybe this will freshen BERT up for another run through college football. We’ve seen former Patriot staffers get hired by college football teams before — former New England offensive coordinator Brian Daboll was named Bama’s OC last February before taking over the Bills’ offense.
