Tua Tagovailoa returned for Alabama after getting shaken up on a TD pass

Tagovailoa was in the process of wrapping a successful first series. He returned on the next series.

Alabama sophomore quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was shaken up after hitting the ground at the end of the first series of the game on Saturday against Louisville. Tagovailoa had just made his first ever start for the Tide, following a long position battle with junior Jalen Hurts.

He came back for the next series after this play:

Tagovailoa made a brilliant play. Under heavy pressure from Louisville’s defense, he evaded rushers and flicked a touchdown pass to Jerry Jeudy in the right corner of the end zone. But Tagovailoa’s legs came out from under him when he made contact with Cardinals linebacker Dorian Etheridge, and his head appeared to hit the ground.

Etheridge earned a roughing-the-passer penalty, enforced on the kickoff, though it didn’t look like he took a cheap shot of any type. Tagovailoa walked off under his own power. And upon his return, he looked just fine: he ran for a touchdown a couple of series later.

If the Tide at some point go to another quarterback, it’ll be Hurts, who’s 26-2 as a starter. It was likely already that both quarterbacks would appear at some point or another.
