No. 4 Ohio State will have to face No. 10 Penn State on Sept. 29 without one of its most talented players. On Sept. 20, head coach Urban Meyer announced Buckeyes defensive end Nick Bosa underwent surgery after suffering an abdominal injury against TCU the Saturday prior:
Ohio State will likely be without its best player against Penn State
Per a report, Nick Bosa could be out for an extended amount of time.

There was no official timetable given for his return at the time, but on Sept. 25, Ari Wasserman of The Athletic reported that Bosa will likely be out until November, per Bosa’s father:
“Coach Meyer is going to get peppered with these questions and he basically said it’s a few weeks, but it’s worth me at least clarifying that it’s not a few weeks,” John Bosa said. “Nick had major surgery. Now, he had surgery with the best surgeon for the core on the planet (Dr. William C. Meyers in Philadelphia) and it’s 100 percent fixable, which is the beauty of it, but he’s not even getting re-evaluated until November.”
If he’s not being evaluated by the doctor until November, that means he won’t play again until November.
Bosa, the little brother of former Buckeye and current Los Angeles Charges defensive end Joey Bosa, is considered a likely top-10 pick.
Through three games, he racked up 14 total tackles, including four sacks for 39 yards. He’s even already been asked about the possibility of him taking home the Heisman Trophy.
Here’s Land-Grant Holy Land on what the potential loss of Bosa means for the Buckeyes:
Meyer did not provide further details about the injury, the surgery, or the recovery time, but this news certainly calls into question whether or not Bosa will be ready to go against the Nittany Lions later this month.
So far this year, Bosa has recorded six tackles for loss, including four sacks, he’s forced one fumble, and scored a touchdown. And in all of the games thus far, Bosa has barely played more than a half in each.
With Bosa out, fellow defensive linemen Dre’Mont Jones, Chase Young, Robert Landers, and Jonathan Cooper will be called upon to lead a defense that has been susceptible to big plays throughout the season.
The Buckeyes beat Tulane 49-6 on Sept. 22 at home without Bosa, but certainly the important Big Ten matchup against the Nittany Lions carries a bit more weight here. The Buckeyes have Indiana, Minnesota, and Purdue after the Nittany Lions. OSU’s November schedule includes Nebraska, Michigan State, and Michigan the last week of the season at home.
