There are some footballing feats that are so inept that they’re honestly impressive. That’s certainly the case when it comes to Michigan’s offense. The Wolverines under Jim Harbaugh is never going to bowl you over with its proficiency through the air, but this 44-yard Nico Collins touchdown is significant because it hadn’t happened in a while.
A Michigan wide receiver scored a touchdown for the first time in nearly a full calendar year
This is impressively inept.

Yes, it has been almost a full calendar year — and 12 full football games — since it last happened.
Michigan quarterbacks have thrown eight touchdowns in that span, but none to a wideout. It’s impressive given the fact that, statistically, it’s just more likely for a receiver to catch a TD than a running back or a tight end just because there are more receivers on the field on any given play.
But then you factor in that Michigan ranked 87th in passing S&P last season, and 109th in passing success rate, things start to make more sense. Plenty was made about the addition of Shea Patterson at the quarterback position during the offseason, and it’s at least paying off a little if things are finally starting to happen down the field for the Wolverines.
But congratulations Michigan, you’ve ended the streak.
