Monterrey Win 3-0, Move Onto Quarterfinals

Lintao Zhang - Getty ImagesMonterrey became the second team to book a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals with a 3-0 win over Municipal on Tuesday. Dario Carreno and Neri Cardozo, plus an own goal providing all of the scoring Los Rayados needed to clinch Group 7.
The opening goal was a solo effort by Carreno, whose long run down the right got him into the penalty area. There he cut back before using his left foot to beat Jaime Penedo with a good shot for a one-goal Monterrey lead.

Arturo Sotillo (Creative Commons)Herediano took care of business on at home on Tuesday night, although maybe not quite as easily as they would have liked. Despite some sloppy play, goals by Pablo Salazar and Enoc Perez were enough to earn Herediano a 2-1 win over Tauro FC that has them on the verge of a spot in the knockout stages.
Tauro were eliminated from the competition last match day, but did want to save some face with their first ever win in the Champions League. That was not to be, though, and Herediano went in front after just eight minute. Eduardo Dasent handles a ball in the area and Salazar converted the penalty to put the home side on top.

The two players combined again on Toronto’s second goal, although Terry Dunfield was the one who got the goal. Amarikwa passed to Johnson, who found Dunfield for a tap-in that extended the visitors’ lead.
