Monterrey Vs. Municipal, 2012 CONCACAF Champions League: Two-Time Champs Book QF Spot
Monterrey cruised past Municipal 3-0 and are moving onto the quarterfinals as they go in search of a third straight CONCACAF Champions league title

The opening goal was a solo effort by Carreno, whose long run down the right got him into the penalty area. There he cut back before using his left foot to beat Jaime Penedo with a good shot for a one-goal Monterrey lead.
Had it not been for Penedo, the match would have been a laugher by halftime, but he made several outstanding saves and kept the match at 1-0 as they two teams went into the break.
Penedo made some more great saves to start the second half, but he was eventually beaten, unfortunately by his own man. Pablo Solorzano’s attempted clearance ended up in his own net and Monterrey were well on their way to victory.
After Los Rayados were two goals up, the match was basically done. Cardozo did add his goal, but the most commotion was caused when the referee injured his hamstring and the fourth official had to take over.
Monterrey still has one match left, an October 23 visit to Panama for a clash with Chorrillo, but without anything on the line, it is unlikely that they will send any first team players.
