With the 54.8-kilometer individual time trial from Stage 8 in the books, the 2013 Giro d’Italia’s Stage 9 is set for early Sunday morning. Many consider Stage 9 to be a solid practice run for the 2013 World Championship Race. Stage 9 begins going northwest from Sansepolcro, and will finish in Florence. It’s a 170-kilometer mountain stage.

Some of the names being thrown around to watch for are climbing specialists, including Vini Fantini and, of course, Giovanni Visconti, who lives along the route. Most feel that the end of the route will be the most intense, with a 2.9-kilometer climb with an average grade of 5.7 percent.

The stage will begin at 12:40 p.m. local time, 6:40 a.m. ET. Live television coverage of the day’s stage will begin at 10 a.m. on beIN Sport, a channel that is carried by most of the big American carriers, including Comcast, Dish Network, DirecTV and Verizon FiOS.
