Final Fantasy Football Advice: Rice, Mathews In Favorable Situations

Three players to start in Fantasy Football who find themselves in favorable matchups in Week 7.

It’s now Week Seven in the NFL, and we are finally beginning to see some consistency in the league. We’ve done our homework, and here are three more suggested starts to help your fantasy football team prosper this week.

(All statistics courtesy of ESPN Fantasy Football.)

RB Ray Rice

Fantasy owners are growing impatient with Rice, as he has been held without a touchdown in five of six games this season. However, they need not fret, as Rice finds himself in an extremely favorable matchup this week at home against Buffalo. Rice has also regained the “workhorse” title, carrying the ball 55 times in the last two weeks.

Our projections suggest Rice will have a huge game on Sunday, as he gets the benefit of facing an abysmal Buffalo defensive front which ranks dead last in the NFL, giving up 182.4 yards per game on the ground. They have also allowed the most rushing touchdowns in the NFL (seven).

RB Ryan Mathews

He may have only one touchdown this season, but with the Chargers fielding an injured receiving corps, we look for Mathews to receive a lot of touches on Sunday. Both WR Malcom Floyd and WR Legedu Naanee are listed as doubtful.

New England has an aging, veteran defensive front which must travel cross-country for this game. We look for a high-scoring game, with Mathews being a big part of it.

Steelers D/ST

It’s safe to say the Miami Dolphins and their Wildcat offense has been tamed this year, as teams now have plenty of film to study and prepare for it. This, in turn, takes away its deceptiveness and allows opposing defenses to plug all necessary gaps and stop the run.

Pittsburgh fields arguably the best defensive front in the NFL and ranks No. 1 against the run (63.6 yards per game). Miami is going to struggle running the football, and we look for them to be forced into employing a pass-heavy gameplan. As a result, we look for QB Chad Henne to turn the ball over a couple of times against Dick LeBeau’s aggressive defense. Start Pittsburgh on Sunday.
