NFL Fantasy Football Deep Sleepers, Week 5: Fred Jackson Should Wake Up This Week
Every week in the NFL brings something new. Find out which deep sleeper should be plucked from obscurity and into your starting lineup for Week 5.
Fred Jackson (vs. JAX) - The departure of Marshawn Lynch certainly means more touches for C.J. Spiller, but it seems that fantasy nation has forgotten about F-Jax, who has rushed for 4.5 yards per carry in limited work. His five rushes per game figures to rise dramatically as Spiller is best suited in a Reggie Bush, outside the tackles role. Between the hashes Jackson is the superior runner and he should see close to 15 rushes per contest going forward. In Week 5 the Bills welcome a Jaguars defense that doesn't defend the pass or run particularly well. Jackson should be picked up in all formats, and for those of you that held onto him for this long - get him into your lineup as an excellent flex option.
Mike Thomas (@BUF) - The disappearance of Mike Sims-Walker (two games without a reception so far) has opened the door for the diminutive Thomas to lead the team in receptions and yards in Week 4. While Maurice Jones Drew, Sims-Walker, and breakout TE Marcedez Lewis continue to draw attention of opposing coordinators, Thomas will be able to roam free against lesser defensive talents. Thomas obviously has greater value in PPR leagues but going forward we recommend the speedster as a starting WR3 in leagues of 12 teams or more.
Mario Manningham (@HOU) - Last Sunday's Bears/Giants game wasn't just forgettable if you are Jay Cutler. Manningham delivered his first goose egg of the young season after suffering from a concussion in the Giants Week 3 game against TEN. But Manningham is averaging a beefy 17 yards per catch, as defenses focus on stopping Hakeem Nicks and Steve Smith. Manningham's blend of straight line speed and open field elusiveness make him an intriguing option in most weeks, especially this Sunday against the Texans high powered offense. The Giants figure to lean heavily on the arm of QB Eli Manning as they keep the contest close. That's good news for Manningham, who figures to see more than a handful of looks.
Mike Bell (@SF) - While the injury to Michael Vick grabs all the headlines, RB Lesean McCoy's cracked ribs have significant effect on the entire Eagles attack. This follows the season ending surgery to FB Leonard Weaver, who played well when Brian Westbrook went down last season. With Kevin Kolb looking less than comfortable running Andy Reid's West Coast offense, Bell could be counted on to catch a slew of checkdown passes against the swarming 49er defense. Expect Bell to post decent numbers, especially in PPR leagues.
