Fantasy Football Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em, Week 11: Let Rice Simmer

With playoffs on the horizon, we caution owners to show some restraint as they look to get their teams back to full strength.

Start

QB - Jon Kitna (vs. DET)

Kitna torched the Giants last week and should have no problems getting his team going against a Lions team that doesn’t cover particularly well. When going up against an inferior opponent at home there is always the risk that Dallas could win in a laugher and Kitna’s numbers adversely affected by a shift to a run first offense for the second half. But the Lions throw more than any other team in the league and should have no problem exposing holes in big D’s secondary. He’s an attractive upside play if you’re stuck with an underwhelming QB like Brett Favre.

RB - Lesean McCoy (vs. NYG)

While a date with the Giants talented and stingy run defense would normally have the real McCoy a “sit” candidate for Week 11, something tells us there’s another player the Giants will be thinking about leading up to Sunday’s NFC East showdown. McCoy is a great asset in PPR leagues as he’s likely to grab a handful of dump passes. The third most talented offensive player on Philly is worth a look as a risk / reward RB2

WR - Mike Wallace (vs. OAK)

Many fantasy owners were probably considering Wallace as he is slated to face the great Nnamdi Asomugha at home in Week 11. But word out of Raider camp is that the CB is questionable with an injured ankle. Even if the gifted Asomugha is able to go, he won’t be his usual self. Wallace owners can be optimistic about his production on Sunday and should insert him back into their lineup if they had taken him out due to matchup considerations.

Sit

RB Keiland Williams (@TEN)

Williams owners had to be excited upon learning that RB Ryan Torrain will miss this contest with the same bum hammy that allowed Williams to post 3 TD’s last week. But as quickly as the fantasy Gods giveth......Clinton Portis is looking like he will suit up. Knowing the man crush HC Mike Shanahan has on CP, we’d avoid Williams as a flex play because we can’t be sure how much work he will receive against a physical Tennessee D. Proceed with caution.

WR - Sidney Rice (vs. GB)

Rice owners must be ecstatic that their patience has FINALLY paid off. And that’s the key: Don’t rush to judgment now. While Rice himself proclaimed that he’ll be active, it’s just another storyline in the soap opera seen weekly in Minnesota. Rice may contribute for your fantasy team for the playoffs. And perhaps you feel that you need him to help you now. And you know what? He might. But it’s far more likely that a lack of game shape, post-injury rust, and a QB who could be knocked/yanked from this Sunday’s game leave Rice owners glad they had him riding the pine.
