Mike Johnson took over for the fired Jimmy Raye early this week as the 49ers offensive coordinator. He’s got his work cut out for him to right the ship of the 49ers offense. With exception of a Week 2 loss to the Saints that was torpedoed by a spate of turnovers, the Niners offense has been almost nonexistent so far this season.
Fantasy Football Week 4: New 49ers Offensive Coordinator Vows To Get Ball To Playmakers
↵Not only has this had a devastating effect on what was a 49ers season lousy with expectations, but it has rendered their players irrelevant for fantasy purposes, in particular receiver Michael Crabtree. After a promising second half of his rookie season, Crabtree was primed to have a breakout season in 2010, but has thus far been an incredible bust, hauling in only six catches for 81 yards and no touchdowns in three games.
↵Well, Johnson held a news conference Thursday, where he said his plan was to get the ball into the plans of playmakers, which apparently had never occurred to Jimmy Raye, who was fond of running the ball three straight times up the gut when down multiple scores in the second half. This could just be lip service, though at least it’s encouraging lip service. Though it shouldn’t be enough to get you to start Crabtree just yet, maybe it means you shouldn’t be in a rush to trade or drop him, either.
