Fantasy Football Notable Performances, Week 5: BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Victor Cruz Lead The Way Under The Radar
Jahvid Best Fantasy Recap: Lions Running Back Explodes In Second Half
Prior to the 88-yard touchdown run, Best only had 13 yards rushing. He wasn’t getting big runs, but he also wasn’t getting many carries as he only had four prior to the big run. The Lions are a heavy passing team, which means Best is often reliant on big plays if he is going to secure big fantasy numbers. Owners got that in heavy doses on Monday Night and will be hoping he can build on that moving forward.

In the meantime, if you own Knowshon Moreno, all you can really do is just sit him on your bench until McGahee cools down. John Fox either has Moreno in his dog-house or really is just sticking with the hot hand for now. Either way, Moreno is not getting enough touches. Don’t waive him, but he’ll have to take up a bench spot for now.

The question becomes now what to do with Green-Ellis an Ridley in coming weeks. The Law Firm should remain in your lineup against Dallas before the bye, but if you have Ridley, it’s a tough call right now. If you are low on bodies due to week six byes, I suppose you have to roll the dice with him. I doubt we’ll hear much on the situation from Bill Belichick, but you never know. Maybe the hooded one will give us some insight on Monday. We’ll have more on this situation throughout the week.

Some intriguing matchups that could make for decent matchup fill-ins would include games at home against Jacksonville and Carolina in weeks ten and twelve. You likely will have better options for both weeks, but if not, don’t sleep on either of them as at least a modest option.

Now the Chiefs have another intriguing running back situation and it really remains to be seen how it will be split. If you picked up Battle before this week he would seem to be a solid bye week start for now. It remains to be seen how consistent he will be, particularly against better teams. However, he could be a solid enough flex fill-in for now. If you’ve got decent waiver priority, it’s worth spending on Battle.
If you have Thomas Jones, you very well could keep starting him since Haley has a penchant for continuing to use him. We’ll have more updates on this platoon over the next few days.

Under Harbaugh, Smith is being put in situations where he has a higher chance at success. His numbers will rarely be out of this world, but he is making very few mistakes and he is taking advantage of opportunities presented to him. His recent development could make him an ideal backup fantasy QB and a great guy to mix and match depending on his matchups.

As we move forward, Cruz goes from bye week fill-in to full on starter worthy. He is not a guy you move ahead of the big names in fantasy, but he is at least worthy of flex play, if not your number two receiver position. He will likely come back to earth in some form or fashion, but for now you might as well ride the wave. Cruz is streaking right now and you never bet against the streak.
