Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch surprised quite a few fantasy football owners Sunday morning when he was a last minute scratch against the Cleveland Browns. Lynch was expected to be active and start but he reportedly injured his back during pre-game warmups and was immediately ruled out for the game.
Marshawn Lynch Injury Update: Back Injury Cuts Short Day During Warmups
After the game, Pete Carroll indicated the back issue was something that had been ongoing since Lynch first arrived in Seattle. It was not on the weekly injury report so it is hard to know exactly how serious it was leading up to Sunday's game. Whatever the case, he was literally a last minute scratch. In Lynch's place, the Seahawks split the carries between Leon Washington and Justin Forsett. They finished with 15 carries for 62 yards. Although they averaged just over four yards per carry, this ugly game was won less by quality offense and more by who screwed up less.
At this point it is a tough weekly decision if you are counting on Lynch for fantasy contributions. If you are counting on him for significant contributions you may already be in trouble this season. He has not been a consistent contributor in some time and given Seattle’s offensive struggles, their rushing game has very little value at this point.
