Fantasy Football Notable Performances, Week 4: Colt McCoy, Beanie Wells Among The Notable Performances

We break down some of the notable fantasy football performances from week four of the NFL season. For more on fantasy football, check out Fake Teams.

Each week of the NFL season, well known players like Calvin Johnson, Michael Vick and Arian Foster blow up with big numbers to help you dominate in fantasy football. Everybody knows about and celebrates well-known performances like that. However, to win your fantasy football league, you need to know about the under the radar players putting up big numbers. If you know to start a Ryan Torain or a Colt McCoy in a subsequent week, that can be the difference between finishing in the money and playing in your league's Toilet Bowl playoff.

Some of the big quarterback performances on Sunday included Colt McCoy throwing for 350 yards and a touchdown and Tarvaris Jackson throwing for 319 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. The odds that you had either of these guys in your starting lineup are fairly slim. Colt McCoy is at best a backup while Tarvaris Jackson has not even been worth that thus far. Moving forward, McCoy could be a decent backup option if you are short a QB during a bye week. He's not an every week start, but he's a solid fill-in.

The running back position saw monster performances from mainstays like Matt Forte and Arian Foster, but how about Redskins running back Ryan Torain putting up 135 yards on 19 carries? He stepped in for a banged up Tim Hightower and made a name for himself. Or how about Patriots running back Stevan Ridley? He rushed ten times for 97 yards and a touchdown as an excellent complement to BenJarvus Green-Ellis.

And the wide receiver position was where the fireworks were on full display. Steve Smith continued his resurgence with 181 yards on eight catches, but it was a big day for rookies as Julio Jones and A.J. Green each cracked 100 yards receiving. The under the radar name though would be Laurent Robinson who filled in ably for injured Cowboys receiver Miles Austin to the tune of seven receptions for 116 yards.

We’ll run down more of these specific performances over the next couple days. Some will be potential waiver wire pickups, and others will be making cases for moving from your bench into your starting lineup.
